Job Description

Position Overview

The Director of Student and Family Services provides leadership and coordination for district programs that promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students. This position oversees a range of services including special education, Section 504, English as a New Language (ENL), McKinney-Vento (homeless) and foster care supports, mental health and counseling, health services, homeschool programming, and community school initiatives. The Director works collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners to ensure equitable access to supports that help every student thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate district-wide student and family support services.

  • Supervise assigned staff in special education, health, and counseling departments.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to student services.

  • Oversee IEPs, 504 plans, and supports for English language learners, homeless, and foster care students.

  • Promote student wellness through mental health, counseling, and health programs.

  • Coordinate community school partnerships and trauma/illness/grief (TIG) supports.

  • Oversee the homeschool program and serve as liaison to families.

  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to align services with district goals.

  • Assist with grant development and management related to student and family services.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Administration, Special Education, or related field.

  • Valid NYS administrative certification (SDL, SBL, or equivalent).

  • Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience in student services or related areas.

  • Strong knowledge of special education, Section 504, ENL, McKinney-Vento, and related regulations.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience supervising staff and collaborating with families and community agencies.

  • Grant writing and program evaluation experience preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, 12-month position.

  • Occasional evening or weekend commitments.

  • Travel among district schools and community sites required.
