Job Description

12 month position with immediate start. This is a Civil Service position. All Civil Service requirements and rules apply.

Hours: 6:30-3:00pm

This is a full-time position with benefits and PTO.

  1. Opens and closes building on school days and for special events.
  2. Responsible for the care and cleanliness of the classrooms, corridors and grounds.
  3. Sweeps and mops floors and stairs.
  4. Dusts desks, woodwork, furniture and other equipment.
  5. Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks and other fixtures.
  6. Polishes furniture and metal furnishings.
  7. Empties waste baskets, collects and disposes of rubbish.
  8. Clears snow and ice from walks and driveways.
  9. Mows lawn, trims shrubs, rakes leaves and performs a variety of other grounds keeping tasks.
  10. Operates heating and lighting equipment as required.
  11. Delivers packages and messages.
  12. Checks operation of clocks, bells and alarms.
  13. Puts out and takes in traffic safety signs.
  14. Puts up and takes down the American flag.
  15. Arranges chairs, tables and equipment for special use of the school building.
  16. Repairs window shades.
  17. Replaces light bulbs, soap and paper towels.
  18. Paints rooms and equipment, repairs furniture and makes minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs.
  19. Assists in loading and unloading of vehicles.
  20. Prepares and maintains a variety of maintenance records and reports.
  21. Informs the Director of Buildings and Grounds of any need for repairs by maintenance personnel or other contractors.

Job Qualifications
  1. Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and ability to use them efficiently and economically.
  2. Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of boiler equipment.
  3. Adequate knowledge to make minor mechanical, building, plumbing, masonry, electrical, carpentry and playground repairs and a wide variety of routine maintenance tasks.
  4. Be very neat and thorough.
  5. Must be willing to follow oral and written instructions.
  6. Good moral character, personal cleanliness, courteous, neat, cooperative attitude, dependable and loyal, completely trustworthy and honest.
  7. Good written communication skills.
  8. Custodial /cleaning experience prefferred.
