Director of Transportation

This is a full-time, 12 month Director's position in the Transportation Department of the Williamson Central School District with an ASAP start date.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversees the establishment of routes to be followed and preparation of time schedules for buses for public and non-public pupils in the school districts.
  2. Supervises service, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of school district vehicles and insures vehicles meet all accepted safety standards and requirements.
  3. Prepares periodic reports, which include routine data information, mileage usage, bus utilization, repair costs, inspections, and employee payroll.
  4. Recommends appointment and dismissal of transportation employees and sets standards of performance.
  5. Assigns bus drivers for extracurricular trips including those for athletic teams.
  6. Establishes a preventive maintenance schedule and insures adherence by drivers and mechanics.
  7. Supervises loading and recommends stopping places for buses.
  8. Oversees the purchase of bus supplies including gasoline, tires, lubricants, antifreeze, and repair parts.
  9. Directs the preparation of accident reports and the filling of necessary insurance forms and department of transportation records.
  10. Processes complaints regarding bus routine and scheduling, designation of bus stops, transportation personnel and student bus discipline.
  11. Coordinates in-service training programs for transportation staff required by State Education Department and school districts.
  12. Assures there are adequate trained substitute bus drivers available when needed.
  13. Assists in the preparation of annual transportation budget.
  14. Insures that transportation personnel comply with policies of the School Board, as they relate to safety, courtesy, reporting, and self-responsibility.
  15. Prepares a variety of records and reports related to the work.
  16. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a district program of preventive safety.
  17. Advises the Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
  18. Acts as liaison with Town Highway Superintendent for consultation on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
  19. Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on accurate and accountable data.
  20. Carries out other duties as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent or Board of Education.

Substitute Bus Monitors
  1. Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
  2. Inspects transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
  3. Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus safely.
  4. Completes appropriate discipline reports and submits to supervisor.
  5. Assists pupils who have a disabling condition.
  6. Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion
  7. Carries out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities, which may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education.
$15.09/hr
Substitute Bus Drivers
  1. To provide safe and efficient transportation on assigned bus routes and extra trips.
  2. To be responsible for a variety of pre-trip/post-trip maintenance activities for assigned bus.
  3. To complete all related paper work as required.
$21.48/hr
